This is a landscape painting of central California. The green trees and dry grasses almost look out of place for a person from the midwest. The winding road makes you want to know whats around the bend.

Living on the east coast of Florida, you have to cross a bridge to get almost anywhere. This sunset painting is a view west from a bridge that crosses the intracoastal waterway in Jacksonville.

I was on vacation in central California and saw this building that was a store front for a small winery. These are the actual colors of the building. The flowers add great color and life to the painting.

This piece is larger than most of my work. I tend to lose focus and creativity when painting drags on for weeks. The scene came from the same reference material as my previous post.

Guana Park is just 5 minutes away from where I live in Florida. The wide open expanses are beautiful. I had originally planned to put more detail into this painting, but when I got to this point, I liked the basic shapes and simplicity. I plan to do another of the same scene and go father with the detail.

I almost didn't get any paintings posted for September. Since this is the 30th, this one and the "Streets of San Francisco" will have to do. This was a fun painting to do. What a face, it could rival any thing Hollywood could come up with!

I started this painting for the DSFDF challenge, but didn't make the deadline for posting. The limited pallet of blues and tans throughout the painting work well. The toughest part of this painting, was getting the details and proportions right.

This is a miniature light house on the fox river in Batavia, Illinois. The view is from a bridge that crosses over the river in Fabyan Park. The reflection of the trees and sky in the water gives the painting the feel of a beautiful summer day. Don.t forget, you can click on the painting to see a larger image.

I have been working on quite a few landscape painting. It was an enjoyable switch to paint the latest challenge for the Different Strokes from Different Folks. I cropped the image down fairly close to get some recognizable detail in the face. I purposely left out detail in the background to bring more attention to the character.

I gave this painting as a gift to my brother in law who worked many years for Caterpillar Tractor. The view into the cab is my favorite part of this painting and the most challenging part to paint. Little boys always have a fascination with tractors and big earth moving equipment.... and most of us never grow out of it!

Growing up in the midwest, this farm is like a picture of an old friend. The Different Strokes from Different Folks chalenge was to create this painting from a black and white image and apply colors that we imagined. This is one of those scenes that can transport you somewhere for a mini vacation!

The challenge for Different Strokes from Different Folks is a street seen from New York City. The bold yellow cabs stand out well in the shadows of the buildings. One of the elements that I wanted to capture was "the light at the end of the tunnel".

I wanted to show a little more of the detail from my previous post. The brush detail gets lost in the reduction of the image. This was painted on 1/4" masonite board. I understand that others are using 1/8" board for their work. While I like putting a frame on most paintings, this could be hung without a frame because of the thickness of the masonite.

The figure really pops out with the limited pallet and high contrast. I'm glad we had several weeks to accomplish this Different Strokes from Different Folks challenge, I have been very busy. I got started the first week and then walk by my roughed in work for a couple of weeks. I had to check the history behind the goddess Diana. Why the spear and dog? I discovered that in Roman mythology, Diana was the goddess of the hunt, being associated with wild animals and woodlands.

This one of the weirdest paintings. It is my submission to "Different Stroke From Different Folks". If you have not been to Karin Jurik's sight it is worth a look. It is interesting to see how different artists create paintings from the same reference piece.

I painted this for my daughter and her husband that live in Florida. She works at the TPC at Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach. This is a view of the famous 17th island green hole. It's a beatiful golf course and fun to live near a PGA Tour event.
